Fedex recently released a new safety technology points incentive that allows a Fedex Ground contractor to receive additional Linehaul assignment points by voluntarily purchasing safety technology with certain capabilities for their equipment.
Video Event Data Recorders (VEDRs) are among the safety technology that qualifies for this incentive. VEDR systems capture both video and vehicle data before, during, and after a collision, providing a detailed account of these events. These systems can be set to begin recording when a trigger occurs such as, a specific speed is reached, the driver enters specified GPS ranges, or driver engages in violent maneuvers or shifts into reverse.
Below you will find specific details about the specification standards of VEDR systems that qualify for this incentive and how to apply to receive the incentive.
Safety Technology Specification Standards
The goal behind this incentive is to encourage FedEx Ground contractors to improve driver behavior and safety behind the wheel. VEDR technology does just that with the added bonus of reducing liability cost for both the contractors and FedEx.
In order to ensure that only the most effective safety technology is purchased, FedEx defined specification standards for the safety technology that qualifies for the points incentive.
Minimum features required:
- Dual camera system (1 forward facing camera, 1 driver facing camera)
- Infrared illumination for low light cabin conditions
- Video recordings minimum 15-30 prior to event trigger and 15-30 seconds after
- Vehicle computer data capture
- Integrated GPS
- Mounted to not interfere with driver’s line of sight
- Configurable thresholds to set moderate and severe alerts
- Cellular or WiFi connectivity for upload of triggered events (can be supplemented with SD memory card storage)
How to Apply for the Safety Technology Points Incentive
As a FedEx Ground contractor, you have access to a MyGroundBizAccount (MGBA), which is designed to help contracted service providers (CSPs) complete business transactions with Fedex. As part of the safety technology points incentive, a new “Safety Technology” link has been added to the left navigation on the MGBA home page. Under this link, CSPs care able to initiate a “Safety Technology Request” to receive the points incentive, and perform a “Safety Technology Inquiry” to check on the status of submitted requests.
