offer Fuel Cost Savings Measures, Enhanced Efficiency and Greater Safety.
At a time when gasoline prices are at record highs, managers of fleets as small as five vehicles are searching for ways to increase efficiency. Fortunately, there are new and existing fleet management solutions systems available that assist with efficiency by providing very useful information which all directly lead to a reduction in fuel costs and emissions (going green).
Known for their widely popular portable navigation devices, TomTom and Garmin began providing fleet management solutions in the United States in 2007suitable for small fleets. Both, Garmin and TomTom, solutions combine telematics (tracking and tracing of vehicles) with navigation. Therefore, a fleet manager can run reports to include speed, idle time, stop and start, timeclock, geofencing, etc. Such reports dramatically assist fleet managers in reducing the use of fuel and greatly assist with the mitigation of emissions. TomTom and Garmin supplement telematics with their navigation units. Now fleet managers can download routes (all web-based) directly into a driver’s navigation unit which in turn provides the driver with audible turn-by-turn street name directions. Managers can also message drivers, change their routes, have drivers use their navigation units as timeclocks, have drivers take their vehicles home, etc. In addition, these navigation units are Bluetooth compatible, permitting drives to comply with multiple city and state laws mandating hands-free cell phone usage. Lastly, these systems are decreasing miles driven by up to 16%!
Just as Garmin and TomTom are unique in the fact that they have telematics with navigation, Networkcar is unique in the fact that their systems combines all of the benefits of telematics with the added feature of remote diagnostics. Every four hours the system runs a diagnostics check. This system reduces overall fleet operating costs by up to 25% by detecting small problems before they become large and costly. Networkcar is also completely web-based. Lastly, Network Car users in California no longer need to perform bi-annual smog checks.
